WH Canon Landscape Company was contracted to design and install acres of landscaping for the hospital’s new wing. The design included two rainwater gardens to capture, cleanse and infiltrate the water within 48 hours of a rain event to avoid the storm sewers entirely.
The design included native plants adapted to periodic inundation, engineering soil mixes that would infiltrate large quantities of water and locating the gardens in the optimal location.
During construction special care had to be taken to work around numerous and sometimes unknown underground utilities as to avoid disruptions of critical hospital functions.
