Detroit, Michigan
The DTE Energy Detroit Campus renovation was a mammoth two-year project that included the complete demolition of the existing landscape and the reconstruction of a world-class corporate center and public park. We worked in close coordination with dozens of other trades on a compact urban site; cooperation was critical to ensure each landmark date was met for an on-schedule grand opening. Working within an existing urban site, unknown obstacles were continuously unearthed. As the project grew in complexity the completion date remained, and the already accelerated schedule became even more fast track.
The signature showpiece designed by Grissim Metz Andriese Associates, a large water feature, forms an abstraction of DTE Energy’s logo. Within the water feature a raised platform of reinforced fiberglass grating was constructed on pedestals and serves as the base for alternating rows of black and white Mexican pebbles to form decorative bands.
- Landscape architect: Grissim Metz Andriese Associates
- Main character of the project: Large water feature
- Challenges of the project: Significant showpiece and intricate design in a complicated urban site. Had to source specific size and types of stones from Mexico for the pond.
- How we made it work: Supply chain and logistics expertise were critical. Focus on cooperation with other trades. WH Canon Landscape Company ensured each landmark date was met for an on-schedule grand opening.
